DIY Cat Toys in a budget: Pipe Cleaner Springs

Writer: The Cat TomTomThe Cat TomTom

We all love how many amazing cat toys we can find at retail stores and trust me if was for me I would buy them all. However, let's be honest they are not always budget friendly. At the time I was looking for non catnip toys, TomTom was only 4 months old at the time, so it wasn't a good idea at the time. Doing my research online I could find some springs/coils made with pipe cleaners.

Materials:

Pipe Cleaners (2 per spring)

Pencil (optional) or you can use your finger

Instructions:

  1. Take two pipe cleaners. I would recommend to use 2 different colors so you and your fur baby can appreciate the cool swirl effect.

  2. Place both pipe cleaners side by side to each-other (parallel) and while pinching one end with one hand, start twisting both pipes (like a tornado) with the other hand. Make sure you completely twist both pieces from end to end.

  3. With the help of a pencil, or your finger, coil the pipes around. I prefer to use my finger because it will create a slightly wider spring.

  4. Final step, this one is very important. Make sure to bend both end inward. This will help create a soft end preventing any potential injuries or scratches.

Ta-da! That's it. Just four steps and technically cents in materials. If you would like to see more ideas like this one please let me know or do you have any DIY project ideas you created for your cat? Tell us about it in the comments!
